Five Questions

August 23, 2009

Obama will give health insurance to illegal immigrants. Obama will force everyone into a government-run system. Obama will have death panels. The majority of Americans know these three statements are fact – even though they’re actually false. The healthcare industry has spent millions to force-feed those lies down our throats, and by the way, those millions came out of the premiums we’ve paid to those folks, supposedly to keep us healthy. So, what’s the real truth? Let’s play a little game.

Do you want the choice to either keep your current plan, or change insurers?

Do you want to spend less for health insurance?

Do you want to be covered if you get sick?

Do you want to stay covered if your job situation changes?

Do you think your neighbor should have coverage?

If you answered Yes to those five questions, you support healthcare reform. It’s that simple. Calling Barack Obama (a self-described “mutt”) and Barney Frank (a gay Jew) “Nazis” doesn’t help the discussion. Then again, the insurance industry doesn’t really want there to be any discussion in the first place. They like things fine just the way they are, and who can blame them?

So while you’re busy attacking the President for taking a vacation after all he’s been through this year, take a minute to think about yourself. Think about your family. About your friends and neighbors.

Because this is serious stuff.

Rationalizing Rationed-Care

August 15, 2009

America is a Christian Nation, the only real one on earth. God has given a special blessing to Europeans who crossed the Atlantic and displaced the heathen Indians who were in the way. Now, when I say “Christian”, I don’t mean all that “Love your neighbor” nonsense liberals yack about. No, I’m talking about the Jesus that told his followers to hate their families and run around carrying swords. These real Christians understand that healthcare isn’t a right, it’s a privilege. It’s not about “Do unto others”, it’s the Haves making sure the Have-Nots stay having not.

And even though the President is a Christian, he’s not Christian enough to get what real Christians believe. We have to stop this idiocy of caring for one another. If it means making up stuff to win the day, so be it. Even though Great Britian, France, Germany, Spain, Canada, heck, all our so-called “friends” in NATO have healthcare for all their citizens, they’re all socialist countries. Death Panels are real – Sarah Palin said so. We know for sure that Obama is lying when he says AARP supports healthcare reform, just check out this site, which they threw together calling for action and dispelling the myths of reform.

Bottom line is, the insurance industry is doing just fine rationing healthcare. They give coverage to those who can pay for it, and if anyone gets sick enough to affect the bottom-line, those folks get kicked out. It’s our system, and even though we pay more per-person for healthcare than any other country and have shorter life expectancies than our socialist competitors, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

After all, that’s what Jesus would do…

Give Us Back Our Country

August 12, 2009

Americans are sick and tired of Washington trying to run our lives. Citizens are outraged by those who would like nothing less than to control all our thoughts and actions. We want our freedom back.

Now, a lot of conservatives have honest disagreements with the democrats’ attempt to ram healthcare reform down their throats. Yet our voices are being drowned out. Not by liberals, but by the big-money backed fake grassroots screamathons at townhalls all across the country. FreedomWorks and other extremely well financed groups have hijacked the discussion.

Some folks have legitimate fears of Big Government. Some folks are truly happy with the status quo. Some folks are not yet decided, which makes sense, since there isn’t even a final bill on the table yet. There’s also, and I hate to say it, an element of racism involved, at least in a small group of people.

But the lobbyists who run Washington have spent millions to turn what should be a civil discourse into a war. This is unAmerican and this must end. So, to the puppet-masters who seek to control us, I say: “Give me liberty, or give me death!”

Obama’s Death Panel

August 9, 2009

I know there are a lot of concerned citizens who have read the entire healthcare reform bill ( no democrat has, though) and are furious with what ex-Governor Sarah Palin refers to as the Obama Death Panel. Yep, this is where Congress has actually given the President the powers necessary to order the execution of all Americans on their 65th birthday.

It took a hell of a lot of work, but I found the provision, and read through it. Please see Subtitle C – Miscellaneous Improvements, which begins on page 420. Please go to Section 1233, Advanced Care Planning Consultation, which starts on page 424 and goes to page 434. Here’s the link to the actual bill. Sorry, I couldn’t just copy-and-paste all ten pages here.

I searched it high and low to find the Obama Death Panel Clause. Unfortunately, I failed. All I read was how doctors would get reimbursed for giving End of Life Consultations, which most do without pay currently. The AMA thought doctors should get paid for their services, and Congress acquiesced…

Big mistake.

120 to 29! 120 to 29!

August 9, 2009

This has been a particularly rough week for President Obama. The number one, top-guy, leader of the Taliban was killed by a predator drone. An empathetic racist was confirmed as a Supreme Court Justice. Stocks soared to their highest levels in over a year as new unemployment claims and total unemployment tailed off to their best numbers in more than a year. Luckily, telepundits are still fuming over the President’s poorly-calibrated remark that the Cambridge Police “acted stupidly” when they arrested his friend and fellow Harvard super-genius for disturbing the peace in his own home.

As to that last point, I’ve been on both sides of similar situations. Believe me, both sides were in the right, and both sides were also wrong. But, Obama’s “stupid” comment doesn’t even compare to Bush’s “ass” comment that came nearly the same time during his first year in office. Remember, August 6, 2001. W. was vacationing at his ranch when two CIA officials briefed him on an imminent al-Qaeda attack. His response: “Okay, you’ve covered you ass, now.”

Still, the White House has to be reeling from the “grassroots” attack on his single-payer socialized healthcare bill. Tea-baggers across the country are fighting to keep the status-quo. “Don’t get between me and my doctor, and keep your hands off my Medicare!”

All snarkiness aside, I don’t understand why supporters of healthcare reform don’t just shout at the top of their lungs, “120 to 29! 120 to 29!” What the hell does that mean? Just the cold, hard facts; which should be enough to end the debate once and for all:

“Since 1999, employment-based health insurance premiums have increased 120 percent, compared to cumulative inflation of 44 percent and cumulative wage growth of 29 percent during the same period.” – National Coalition on Healthcare
